The memorial site for the Victims of the Austrian Freedom Fight 1938–1945 at the Leopold Figl-Hof, the location of the former Hotel Metropol (headquarters of the Vienna Gestapo from 1938 to 1945), was jointly erected by the founding parties of the Second Republic with the inclusion of the concentration camp association closely associated with the KPÖ (Communist Party of Austria). Whereas the Jewish victims are included, such as in the images at the entry gate, the dedication to the freedom fight and the design of the memorial site clearly indicate that the political resistance stood at the fore. |
